About Our Presentations

Rick Spears

Here is a list of schools at which I have been asked to give a presentation. The main feature is a PowerPoint show of my artwork, demonstrating how illustrations "evolve" and what goes into building a life-size dinosaur model. Then, of course, time for questions and answers.  If you'd be interested in having me give a presentation at your school... or to any group that might enjoy seeing how books are illustrated or exhibit models made...  please contact me.

  • "Students, parents and staff always have a blast with Kelly Milner Halls.  I have seen her give presentations to a total of 1,000 children at three schools since 2002.  Students were engaged and giggling at every presentation, no matter which book Kelly was sharing.  They were in awe as she described stories connected to Tales of the Cryptids and Albino AnimalsUnlike some popular authors, Kelly is humble, kid-friendly and goofy.  Every library teacher in the Central Valley School District (Spokane, WA) reported that Kelly was very easy to work with and that she charged extremely reasonable fees for school visits."

  • "Awesome!’ is the word my students used to describe Kelly’s presentations at Lee  Elementary School.  Students, staff and parents loved her enthusiasm, kid-friendly speech, awesome artifacts (which kids are allowed to touch!) and positive personality.  Many kids asked me the next day if she could come back again this year.  Kelly bends over backwards to accommodate student needs, adjusting to times of day, ability and grade levels, and staff requests.  She is informative and great fun.  I would highly recommend her for any school.”

  • “Ooooh!”  “Ahhh!”  “Wow!”  “Sweet!” Rick’s presentations earned high praise from the students at Benton. He had them hooked with a computer-animated dino skeleton before the presentations even started, and then held their interest by showing them slides of models, drawings, book illustrations, and works-in-progress. In addition to his talent as an artist, Rick is very knowledgeable about science, effortlessly combining both in his work and talks with students.. He was gracious and kind, genuinely interested in the kids and their questions. His message to students, “find something you love to do and learn to make a living at it” is one they can never hear too often. Weeks later, Tales of the Cryptids and Dinosaur Mummies are still the hottest items in the media center!

I'd love to visit your school, library or conference.  My presentation is called "The Wonders of Weird" and I sare all kinds of stories and fossils, thanks to Rick Spears (he gave me a LOT of the fossils).  I can also give writing workshops.  Email me and I'll tell you all about it.  And here's a list of the places I've been recently, too.
