Inside the Book

Like all children's book, Dinosaur Parade evolved as the editorial process moved forward.  This page will offer you an inside look at a few of the changes that came along the way.

  • IN THE BEGINNING

    April 21, 2008
When Rick and I first began to flesh out this book proposal, we pictured little students drawing a dinosaur mural of their own, then watching their drawings come to life.  In the early versions, we opened and closed with those "kids drawing" spreads.

In time, that beginning was ejected in favor of more dinosaurs -- and when it comes to dinosaurs, more IS better.  But take a look at how we first pictured the beginning and end of Dinosaur Parade.

Our original opening spread pictures kids drawing dinosaurs.

Our original closing spread pictures the class lizard spilling the paint water.

Each spread inside the book features five different dinosaurs from a group of family of dinosaurs, including this one from the armored dinosaurs, including Stegosaurus.  As you see, Rick's drawn the kids right into the DINOSAUR PARADE to help them understand how BIG big actually is.  Every spread features these great, vibrant colors.
